How GenAI Is Changing the Way I Work as a Consultant

What is your background, and what brought you to BCG Platinion?
I am originally from Norway and studied industrial economics with a focus on AI and optimization in Trondheim, with additional academic experience in Berkeley. Early on, I was interested in the potential of AI, but even more in how it can be applied in real business contexts.
That is what brought me to BCG Platinion. The combination of technology and strategy, and the opportunity to work closely with organizations on topics that are both complex and highly relevant.
How do you use GenAI in your day to day work?
I use GenAI primarily to structure information and support problem solving. It helps me bring together inputs from different sources such as meetings, documents, and previous deliverables, and turn them into a more coherent picture.
I also use it to streamline recurring tasks and support preparation work, for example when outlining interview guides or synthesizing insights. This allows me to move more efficiently through the workflow while keeping the focus on the core problem.

How has your way of working changed?
The biggest shift is in how quickly I can move from information to insight. Preparing, structuring, and synthesizing content is more efficient, which creates more room to focus on interpretation, decision making, and shaping recommendations.
It also allows me to explore topics in greater depth and take on broader responsibilities within a project.
Can you share an example?
On a recent project, I worked on analyzing a large set of documents related to emerging technologies. The goal was to identify key themes and areas of momentum across the landscape.
With the support of GenAI, I was able to structure and synthesize the material much more efficiently, resulting in a clear and comprehensive overview that informed our direction going forward.
How do you ensure responsible use of GenAI?
GenAI is always a support, not a final answer. I critically review outputs and ensure that any content used in a client context is validated.
Data handling is also a key consideration. I make sure that information is used appropriately and that there is always a human in the loop throughout the process.
How do you stay up to date and what is your perspective going forward?
I follow relevant developments through a mix of curated sources and internal knowledge sharing. It is important to stay close to both the technology itself and how it is applied in practice.
Looking ahead, I think the real differentiator will be how effectively consultants combine these tools with their own judgment. GenAI can enhance the way we work, but the value still comes from asking the right questions and turning insights into action.
For me, GenAI is a natural extension of how I work. It supports the process, sharpens the thinking, and creates more space to focus on what really matters: delivering meaningful impact for clients.
