How GenAI is impacting the way I work as an IT consultant

What is your background, and what brought you to BCG Platinion?
I am originally from Norway. I studied industrial economics with a focus on AI and optimization in Trondheim, and theoretical machine learning and AI at the University of California, Berkeley. I am interested in both the technical foundations of AI, models, architectures, and engineering, and in how specialists apply them to solve concrete business problems.
How do you use GenAI in your day to day work?
I use GenAI as one tool within a broader technical workflow, primarily to structure information and support problem solving. It helps consolidate inputs from different sources such as meetings, documents, and previous deliverables, freeing up time and mental space for the higher-order thinking that requires real expertise.
I also use it to streamline recurring tasks like outlining interview guides or synthesizing insights. The goal is to let skilled professionals spend less time on mechanical steps and more time on the core problem — where human judgment and technical knowledge genuinely make the difference.
Where do GenAI agents come into play in your workflow?
I delegate specific recurring tasks to GenAI agents. For example, one agent compares what was completed during the past week against the overall project plan and drafts a structured plan for the week ahead.
Another agent helps prepare weekly updates by turning project context into a clear summary. Ahead of key meetings, I use an AI agent to surface relevant materials, which I review for accuracy before distilling them into a concise briefing of the points most worth raising in the discussion.
It is not about handing over responsibility, but about creating more space to focus on the parts of the work that require context, judgment, and interaction

How has your way of working changed?
The biggest shift is in how quickly I can move from information to insight. Preparing, structuring, and synthesizing content is more efficient, which creates more room to focus on interpretation, decision making, and shaping recommendations.
It also allows me to explore topics in greater depth and take on broader responsibilities within a project.
Can you share an example?
On a recent project, I worked on analyzing a large set of documents related to emerging technologies. The goal was to identify key themes and areas of momentum across the landscape.
With the support of GenAI, I was able to structure and synthesize the material much more efficiently, resulting in a clear and comprehensive overview that informed our direction going forward.
How do you ensure responsible use of GenAI?
GenAI is always a support, not a final answer. I critically review outputs and ensure that any content used in a client context is validated.
Data handling is also a key consideration. I make sure that information is used appropriately and that there is always a human in the loop throughout the process.
How do you stay up to date and what is your perspective going forward?
I follow relevant developments through a mix of curated sources and internal knowledge sharing. It is important to stay close to both the technology itself and how it is applied in practice.
Looking ahead, I think the real differentiator will be how effectively consultants combine these tools with their own judgment. GenAI can enhance the way we work, but the value still comes from asking the right questions and turning insights into action.
For me, GenAI is a natural extension of how I work. It supports the process, sharpens the thinking, and creates more space to focus on what really matters: delivering meaningful impact for clients.
