From Two to Three: Balancing Fatherhood and Consulting

Becoming a father marked an exciting new chapter for our colleague Filippo Paluzzi. He shares how he balances family life and consulting, and how supportive teams, open communication, and clear priorities at BCG Platinion help him make time for what matters most.

A Little Earlier Than Planned

Some of life's most special moments don't always happen according to plan. For our colleague Filippo, that became clear when his daughter decided to make her entrance into the world a little earlier than expected. While he and his wife were preparing to welcome their daughter in May, she arrived in April instead. The crib was still in its box, and his handover to the team was still waiting to be completed. And just like that, life changed from being a family of two to a family of three, with a little one bringing new routines and responsibilities into their everyday lives. Since then, Filippo has been embracing his new role as a father while supporting his wife in their daily routines. Whether it's taking care of errands, helping out in the early mornings, or spending time together in the evenings, being there for his family is an important part of his day.

Finding a Rhythm

With a new family member comes a new daily rhythm. For Filippo, this means making time for his family while remaining committed to his professional ambitions and the high standards he sets for himself and his team. An important part of making this work is having colleagues who support one another and share responsibilities. Filippo focuses on building an environment of trust, where effective delegation and greater ownership empower everyone to contribute and take responsibility. At BCG Platinion, this kind of collaboration is supported by open communication and a shared understanding of how teams work together. At the beginning of each case, conversations about team norms give colleagues the opportunity to share their individual priorities, align expectations, and agree on ways of working that consider both personal commitments and team objectives. By making these conversations part of everyday teamwork, BCG Platinion helps create an environment where colleagues can openly discuss their needs and find an approach that works for both themselves and their teams.

"My advice to others is to face the new reality with love and passion"

Making the Most of Every Day

For Filippo, having a clear structure to his day helps him make time for the things he values most. He focuses on setting priorities, organizing his tasks efficiently, and making the most of his working hours. One approach he finds particularly helpful is the 80/20 principle, which allows him to concentrate on the activities that bring the greatest value. And there's a very personal reason behind it: being home in time for his daughter's evening routine. Filippo usually leaves the office at 6:30 p.m. to arrive home around 7:30 p.m., just in time to help his wife bathe their daughter and put her to bed. If there are any remaining professional tasks, he takes care of them afterwards. Alongside thoughtful planning, having a supportive working environment can make a meaningful difference. When teams communicate openly, share responsibilities, and understand one another's priorities, it becomes easier to make room for personal commitments while continuing to work towards shared goals. It's this combination of individual priorities and collaborative ways of working that helps create space for the moments that matter outside the office.

A Little Advice for the Journey

For Filippo, fatherhood has added a whole new dimension to his everyday life, bringing fresh perspectives and priorities. Alongside love and passion, he highlights the importance of discipline and thoughtful prioritization. Focusing on what matters most helps him make time for both his family and his professional responsibilities. Filippo's story offers a personal glimpse into how family life and a career in consulting can go hand in hand. While finding the right rhythm is personal, having the right environment at work can make a real difference. Through open communication, mutual trust, and a collaborative team culture, BCG Platinion aims to support colleagues in pursuing their professional ambitions while making time for what matters to them personally.
