From Two to Three: Balancing Fatherhood and Consulting

Filippo Paluzzi shares his experiences of navigating fatherhood alongside his consulting career and the importance of discipline, prioritization, and teamwork.

A Little Earlier Than Planned

Some of life's biggest changes don't always happen according to plan. For our colleague Filippo, that became clear when his daughter decided to make her entrance into the world a little earlier than expected. While he and his wife were preparing to welcome their daughter in May, she arrived in April instead. The crib was still in its box, and his handover to the team was still waiting to be completed! Suddenly, life was no longer just about the two of them. They were now a family of three, with a little one depending on them. Since then, Filippo has been doing his best to support his wife and share the responsibilities of everyday family life. Whether it's taking care of daily errands, helping out in the early mornings, or being there in the evenings after work, making time for his family has become an important part of his daily routine.

Finding His Rhythm as a Father and Consultant

Of course, adjusting to life with a newborn also comes with its challenges, especially when balancing family responsibilities with a career in consulting. For Filippo, one of the challenges is finding enough time and energy for both the people at home and his colleagues at work.

At work, Filippo continues to set high standards for himself and his team. At the same time, his new responsibilities have made it important to create an environment where his colleagues can take on more ownership and work with greater independence. For him, this means less micromanagement and more trust in the team's ability to take responsibility.

"My advice to others is to face the new reality with love and passion, otherwise it is hard to survive the night shifts and the work challenges together."

Making the Most of Every Day

With a little one waiting at home, making good use of his time has become particularly important to Filippo. He emphasizes the value of being disciplined, setting clear priorities, and reducing inefficient moments throughout the working day. The 80/20 principle has become a useful approach for him, helping him focus on the tasks that matter most and organize his time more effectively. And there's a very personal reason behind it: being home in time to help with his daughter's evening routine. Filippo usually leaves the office at 6:30 p.m. to arrive home around 7:30 p.m., just in time to help his wife bathe their daughter and put her to bed. Once their daughter is asleep, he takes care of any remaining work tasks. It's one way he manages his responsibilities at work while making time to be there for his family.

A Little Advice for the Journey

When it comes to advice for others navigating the challenges of parenthood and professional life, Filippo highlights the importance of approaching this new chapter with the right mindset. Alongside love and passion, he encourages other parents to embrace discipline, rethink priorities, and make the most of their time. For Filippo, finding a balance between fatherhood and consulting is about being there for his family while continuing to support his team and pursue his professional ambitions. And sometimes, that starts with something as simple as making it home in time for his daughter's bedtime.
